Hey guys, I'm new to the world of motorcycles. I rode some smaller dirtbikes when I was 10-12yrs old, but never had one of my own (my mother forbid it). So, now my 36th birthday is coming up and I decided to get myself a present... turned out to be a 2004 TTR250. Reading through the forums here was invaluable in helping me make my decision, so thanks! I ended up finding a local guy who rebuilds and resells dirtbikes with his son as a hobby. He was selling this TTR250 on Craigslist for a neighbor. The neighbor had put approx 500mi on the bike and then parked it in his garage for a couple of years. The seller dismantled and cleaned the carb, rejetted it, installed a new oil and air filter, and new battery. I got it from him for $1300 (delivered to my house), so that seemed like a good deal compared to some of the other prices I've seen in my area. Anyway, the only thing I've found wrong with it is the plastic "protector" over the rear caliper area is broken. Found that online for US$20, but haven't ordered it yet. Next items on the agenda... 1) Get a helmet... yeah, that's kind of a big one. I've so far only ridden it for 10 minutes through my neighborhood 2) Buy a pad for the handlebar crossmember 3) Dress it up with a few stickers I don't want to go overboard, but it's pretty plain right now. Altogether, I'm very pleased thus far, and think the bike will be perfect for my needs (light trail riding outside my neighborhood, maybe working my way up to a dual sport of some kind). Nice to meet you all, happy trails!

What a good find and congratulations on securing it.
What you now need is a helmet and then to get out there and use it and the bike.
Welcome to the forum.
