hey everyone

Was just wondering if i could get some advice before i strip my bike apart.

My clutch is not fully disengaging when pulled all the way in, this is leading to very clunky gear changes. the engine will not stall when in gear and the clutch is pulled in but it does try to pull forward and on the stand it runs the back wheel at the same speed as if the clutch was released. Iv triple checked the cable and played with the adjustments and it is working fine. iv changed the oil thinking it might be gummed with impurities. it has improved very slightly but no where near fixed.

Aidan, if I were you I would take a look at this page of the TTR250 FAQ web pages,

clicky thingy

which gives details of part numbers for the TTR250 clutches.

Ineffective disengagement could be due to bad adjustment (which you've checked), knackered clutch cable (which you've checked), tired/low oil (which yo've checked) and worn plates - which is your next option. confuse

If the lining of the plates is worn then this could be the answer to your problems. wink

Good luck.

Martyn

In my experience it is unusual to need new metal plates and springs.

It's usually just the friction plates that need replacing.

EBC do a good kit but there is a cheaper version by Psychic now available and they both look exactly the same to my eyes.

I will be trying the Psychic set next time I need a new clutch - which hopefully isn't any time soon....

I'm in the market for a new clutch. Do you have a link to the one you're talking about Brian?

Cheers Spud.

On the subject of clutches, mine is like a switch. ie you only need to let it out a tiny bit and your fully engaged. No modulation. Makes slipping the clutch very tedious. Any ideas? Sorry to thread hijackc but I find it hard to start a new topic on my smartphone, but replying is ok!!??

Firts thing to check is that the clutch actuator is properly adjusted as per the manual - copy of relevant bit attached:
