TTR runs underwater!

Do all TTR's run underwater or am I just lucky?

I ask because I was laning yesterday with a couple of friends and during several long water crossings where my bum was underwater my TTR never missed a beat (thank goodness!) but both the XLR 600 and MT350 cut out several times.

Now I've not done any special prep so am I just lucky or is this another great feature of the TTR?

I think you were lucky it kept going, especially if you were on the pegs and your bum got wet! biggrin

The air intake for the TTR250 is the snorkel thingy you see when you take the seat off.

If water gets into that scoop and fils the air box there is a chance of water getting into the carb/motor. bleh

BUT - given a bow wave by forward progress then the likelihood of drowning is less, unless you stop or plunge completely under water.

After a dowsing it is prudent to stop the motoar ASAP and drain the water from the air box if nothing else.  confuse

I've been riding in the floods in bangkok and the bike was running fine in a depth of water about half way up the engine, but now it's started cutting out and it restarts but its like water is getting in to, on to something..took the carb off ans stipped it no water???? checked the ht lead can't see any probs ...sprayed everything with wd40 before during and after each trip out... any IDEAS??????

 Hi Martyn,

I was sitting on the seat going through the water - I reasoned I would not make such a big splash when I fell off if I wasn't standing upbiggrin

I agree I was lucky it didn't ingest water as the intake would definately have been below the water line, just sufficient bow-wave effect as you say.

I had done no prior spraying with WD40 etc as I hadn't expected to be wading like this but I was just so impressed (and relieved!) it kept going!!

Cheers,

Giles
