Hey guys i have had my australian 2000 mod TTR since early 2009 and there has been no problems yet (good) but 3 days ago i noticed some oil started dripping after i had come back after a ride and cannot find where it is coming from i cleaned all the oil off it and the next day after i rode home i noticed it again, any ideas? Should i remove the whole motor and see if its something like a gasket because it seems to be coming from the Right hand side of the transmission area.
Thanks
Adam

The most common cause of oil leaks on the TTR is a failed "decompressor" plug - situated just above the exhaust. When this one leaks badly then, on a run, the oil can get blown all over the front of the engine and just possibly could be dripping down the RHS. Although a tad unlikely, it is worth checking as it is an easy fix. See http://www.ttr250.com/Replacing_cylinder_head_oil_plug/TTR_oil_plug.htm
The only other things I can think of are:
a) the cam cover leaking. Unusual, especially if it hasn't been disturbed and
b) the transmission oil seal behind the front sprocket - again that's unusual but not unheard of. If the leak occurs only after a run and not when standing then thsi might be the one. Easy enough to replace. Access after removing the sprocket.
Best give the engine a real good clean, take it for a run and see if that helps identify any fresh oil escaping!
Thanks Brian i will give your methods a try, it is not the decompressor plug as i have checked there already, however behind the sprocket seems fine and a close up examination has revealed to me a gasket which has been torn a little on the rear RH engine side where the casings connect.
