Rear swing arm

Well decided to check my swing arm and all the linkages and give them a regreace. I havnt had a look at them since I got the bike a year ago...... Well let's just say the idiot who had the bike before me hasn't looked at them since the bike was made in 2000. Soo looks like anouther expensive rebuild. Some of the bearings were so rusted you couldn't even tell that's what they were. Word of advice check ur linkages more often then once in 11 years.

Bad luck cry

Good luck with stripping them out though - that is gonna be messy confuse

Your message is timely as it's about time I took my swing arm off to check and regrease.

New to the TTR bike but it does appear to be at a slight disadvantage to my Serow which has  5  grease nipples on the swing arm and linkages which is so easy to do after a ride.

The earlier TTRs did have grease nipples on every linkage bearing and the swing arm. I guess cost cutting led to them being left off later models.

It is probably worth putting one in the swing arm - easy enough to do wink

The pic below shows the swing arm and where a grease nipple can be fitted. It involves drilling and tapping the alloy swing arm and screwing in a jointed grease nipple. Best done with the old bearings out and before you fit the new ones!

The lower shock bearing is quite a cheap one to replace - see http://www.totallyttrs.com/#All_Balls_kits

I haven't yet found an after-market shock top bearing from the likes of All Balls but Andy L-S offers a great alternative to the very expensive standard bearing, seals and collars (very difficult to remove the wide collars without breaking them) - see http://www.joatmoa.co.uk/ttr250/#bushkit

The Raid top shock bearing seems a more sensible design.

well im just waiting on parts, not just the bearings were destroyed. because of how long the bike was running in such terrible conditions even the bolts and axles needed to be replaced. the only part that could be saved was the actual swing arm.
so this is what my bike now looks like.

as you can see im still waiting on parts or the valves as well so the head of the engine is missing

Well I got the bike way below market value so I'm gonna just brake even when I get all the parts. At least now I no thAt all the pieces and everything works well. And while I'm doing it I can adjust and modify bits to suit me. Iv just resprayed the Frame, maniged to get my hands on some touch up paint so it looks awesome now! Just can't wait to hit the trails again.

Just an update. All bearings are in and over greased just to make sure. Just waiting on the upper shock bearing from the USA and then I can drop bike off the stand. And the suspension will all be sweet. If anyone is doing this. My advice is get a bench vice. Made putting the bearings in ridiculously easy.
