A Raid in Edinburgh! Hi everyone!

Just posting a hello as I have had a '93 Raid for less than a year and am impressed with the wee bike!

Got it as a 2nd bike (to a Firestorm) as my wife was getting back on to a bike after a 4 year absence and confidence was low.

Subsequently sold the Firestorm and have been using the raid daily over the (Scottish) summer. Must say it's a bit low on power for me but the 6 speed box makes it really useable on road.

Looking for maintenance tips/spares etc over the winter storage and thus joined the Forum.

Notice already someone posting from Thailand about an oil leak in the head. On my bike this is a decrompressor cable inlet (leaking) but their one had a blanking plug.

Are spares obtainable from Yamaha dealers?

Anyway - hi to you all!

Hi Keith and welcome to the forum!

The decompressor was an optional extra on the white TTRs that were fitted with a kickstart - not that they were needed IMHO.

It should be possible to get spare parts from a knowledgable Yamaha Parts dealer like MotoWard with a helpful partsman.

Good luck!

Brian

Hi back Brian - the forum looks really good and you seem to be busy with other parts stuff which is great. I am already scanning totallyTTR for a few purchases!

Agree with you about the decompressor cable! Having had bigger dirt bikes in the past XT550's, DR600 it seems a bit ridiculous but I like having the kickstart.

I take it batteries are a problem?  Mine went dead overnight after 4 months of constant trouble free use.

The batteries usually last a good few years but, as in all things, eventually give up the ghost.

I picked up another new battery from Martin at Positive batteries on Friday (£25 collected) and he has bought in some stock of them now so they are immediately available to post - see http://ttr250.activeboard.com/t45151003/ttr-batteries/
