I am running 14 / 44 and it's great for the road and easy trails but as Soon as it gets hard it's a propper struggle, I have just ordered a 48 rear to go on my spare off road wheel which might help a little.
I run 13/48 offroad. On a new ttr the easiest thing to do is run 13/44. On mine which I am dual sporting I'm trying 14/46. Sits on 100kmh without complaint.
Used a 13/48 for years, had play in the s/arm because of the 13 tooth, the chain had worn thro the chain slider and the s/arm seal! Now have a 14/48 fitted.
Considering keeping the front 14t on and fitting a 52t rear, new chain and if this turns out too low then go 50 or 48 and then at least I can shorten the chain to suit if needed.
