G'day From the Blue Mountains

Hi All

My first post here all the way from the Hazelbrook in the Blue Mountains, about 100 klicks west of Sydney.
So G'day to all the TT Riders, and will be one myself in the very near future.
So a bit of history, haven't been on a dirt bike for 25 years except for a blast around a soccer field on a DRZ250 a little while ago

My first bike, a DT60 mini bike, lots of fun when your an ankle biter.
Next was a YZ 125A, also lots of fun, it was an alright motocrosser I guess but I wound back it's wild powerband and made it into a great trailbike at the time.
Then came the Awsome IT250, it was basically a 250cc motocrosser with a wider powerband and a license plate for the road.
Next was my first 4 Stroke, a TT250, a bit slow and porky but reliable and good fun to ride.

Fast forward to now, My first choice was an XR but changed my mind as I wanted an electric leg, so then thought of DRZ250 but was put off by the water cooled system, just something else to be damaged or need repair, also didn't like the colour, Yellow !!, what is that,  so had another look at Yamaha and discovered the TT, so most of the boxes got ticked
Electric leg, air cooled, lighter than the other two, good handling, nice big comfy seat etc....

So another week or so should see me on my new steed.

I have a question for you all, one question with multiple answers I suspect, I'm going to but a used one, 06 or 07, what should I look for, any specific things to check etc...

For example when I was looking into XR's you have to check the Swing Arm Axle as they freeze and are a bitch to get out if you need to change the bearings

Finally, this forum is just what I was looking for, TT enthusiasts !!, great going

Cheers
Steve

Steve,
welcome mate.

Sorry but i can't give any advice on what to look for as I too have not had a bike for over 20yrs, and when I statred looking the TTR ticked the boxes too. i was lucky enough to find one that was only 6 weeks old but picked it up for $5500, so figured I couldn't lose and stopped even looking after that. They seem as bullet proof as ever though.

Enjoy the bike when you get it mate.

BJ

Welcome from the northern hemisphere. biggrin

A TTR250 is a very good box ticker - apart from the known "porky" problem they are a very good compromise for hitting the trails.

Things to look for when buying a TTR can be found on "The TTR250 FAQ web pages". Access to this is on the left of the bike pic at the top of this very page under the first horizontal coloured band.

If you can't find it then click here

Good luck, cobber!

Hi All

Buying my bike this weekend, this one here, it's a 2004 model.

I downloaded a manual for the TTR250L (C) model from somewhere, A link from here I think ?
Anywayis there any difference between the 2004 models and the later ones as I was also thinking of a more expensive 2007 one, if there's no difference the 04 model will do, it has lots of bling on it and only 3000ks

Thanks

Steve

Looks to be a fair example of a used TTR - stress marks on front mudguard, scuffs on side panels, ingrained crud on headstock. wink

It's got the barkbreakers and kick plates that are sensible additions. I like the silencer choice also.

I hope it's been serviced well and ready to go. confuse

Enjoy it, you won't bedisapointe4d, I'm sure.

Good luck with the TTR! As far as I know, the only changes on the blue TTRs from year to year have been on the tank graphics! Oh yes, the frame went from electric blue to black but don't know what year that happened.

I have a 2004 model and its a fine machine wink
