Rear shock pre load adjustment

Ok i am new to ttr's and the bike is a little tall for me, i have adjusted the compression damping to try and soften the suspension up but its still to tall, will backing off the spring pre load lower it a bit for me? i don't really want to get a lowering link, i have thought about hacking the seat foam but it seems a bit of a waste!

I doubt if it actually "lowers" the height - it just makes the suspension harder or softer.
Have a look at this link - it tells you how to adjust the suspension FOR YOU:-

Clicky Thingy

Also, have a look in the TTR250 FAQ web pages at the top of the page.

I just thought if it made the suspension softer then when I sat on the bike it would travel down further then obviously be lower but I dont suppose my actual body weight will make that much difference! the best way maybe to buy a second hand seat and cut in inch or 2 of the foam then put the cover back on, then at least I aren't changing the suspension settings, does anyone know where I could get a seat from? Have looked on eBay and there are some off 125's anyone know if they will fit?

It did for me plus I dropped the front forks about 3/4 inch up through the yokes.

We did the same as Brian to the front fork tubes plus fitted a Kouba link to the rear (which was quite simple) Worked a treat we can get our ancient creaking bones on and off easily. Backing of the spring preload does nothing for the static unloaded height.

You can also space the bars up a bit and get the fork tubes up an extra 6mm or so. Just buy some thick stainless steel washers.... can't remember if they were 8 or 10mm.

Right I fitted the kouba 2 inch lowering link tonight and dropped the front forks just over half an inch and it's perfect, very happy, I can now re adjust all the suspension settings to suit me!
