Welcome to the forum Ian!

As for Martyn, I am afraid you are going to have to split the crankcases to replace the shaft cry

This guide may help you decide whether to tackle the job.

Steve has both new and used in stock - see here

personally, if the bike is running good id tack weld the lever on and rebuild it when it needs it. or at winter and get some miles done on it :)

I once sawed the gap on the lever boss whilst clamped shut in a vice several times so it closes tighter. could drill all if its together, and bolt or pin it... it would get you going again... or tack weld the end once in place as chris says... .... I think i upped the size of bolt and that took in some of the slack and allowed it to be tightened much harder.

And because these engines are so good ,( give it plenty of oil changes) it wont need to be taken off again....

Ok a quick fix....to keep you going...

with the gear lever on and in the position
you want...but only tight enough to stop it turning..
then drill a 3mm hole down the join between
the shaft and gear lever...
then tap a 3mm roll dowl / tension pin in the hole
then tighten the gear lever up on the shaft...
