oil coming from blocked off pipe below oil breather
Permalink

I have recently fitted new rings and stem seals and i took it for its first ride out since the work, i did 45 miles at a steady pace. Bike sounds good and doesn't smoke anymore. When I got home I noticed that some oil had come out of the blocked off pipe on the oil breather (at the bottom), what can cause this?

Do you mean the drain pipe at the bottom of the conical emulsifier?

If not, perhaps you can post a photo showing where you mean Chris?

The drain pipe should be crimped at the bottom and thus totally sealed so shouldn't be able to leak.

You may need a replacement cry

hi, I will check that it is properly sealed tomorrow, is it possible for too much oil to come out the bottom? What does the conical emulsifier do?

It is there to take out any water or oil mist out of the crankcase "fumes" before it hits the airbox. All to do with emission control to stop the nasty polluting fumes going straight into the atmosphere - or all over your bike wink

I put a tiny hole in mine and it drops a tiny bit of oil on the chain

Yours may have had oil in the pipe from the blow by from pre rebuild

Also after a rebuild extra blow by is normal until everything settles in

What could be defined as an acceptable amount to lose let's say over 100 miles? I'm going take it for a good run and keep an eye on it tomorrow.
