Got my heat/temp gun in today

Here is how hot the pipe gets idling for 5 minutes (timed)

Couple of pics of where i am aiming the gun (see attached) black image is about 30-1min after i switched bike off, slight glow. Can not be seen in pic

TEMPS In Celsius

Header pipe

2 min = 128.8

3 min = 191.0

4 min = 215.3

5 min = 330.0 (i think is not right, it was jumping around) *inconclusive really* 285-290??????

This seems very very hot to me.

Exhaust tip

2 min = 25.5

3 min = 27.5

4 min = 32.1

5 min+ = 35.5

Also i may be using the temp gun incorrectly... tried to have it about 20cm away from target

Its a cheap china unit btw... so may not be 100% accurate measuerd a heater that says 22c, gun says 32c??

NOTE: garage has a heater set to 22c. Which was warming up during test.????

that is common...
ride it... the air flow will cool it..

stainless steel heats up a lot easyer than steel..

Thanks petenz.
Thats good to know. At least it is not GLOWING HOT after 3 minutes like it was :)

Edit : 2 hours later , went for a quick squirt around town ( about 8 minutes), as soon as i pulled in to garage hit it with temp gun.

Header pipe reading: 206.7c????

melting point of 304 stainless steel is 1400 - 1450 deg....
so you have a wee way to go before it falls into a molten
blob on the road

That is good news petenz.
Looks like i'd have to be revving the bejeus out of it :)
I asked as, i had a high reviving issue whilst riding (seems to have come good now)
And posted a pic of the bike just idling for about 3 minutes, and the header was glowing hot. WISH I HAD TEMP gun then!!!

This seems to have settled down as well now, as people i talked to seemed to indicate it was was just burning of crap in pipe??? As it had been sitting in shed for 3-4yrs before i bought it.

I have put on a massive 60kms to odo since buying it :)

I really do not know, other than last 4 times starting it, seems not to be this bad now. *phew*
Best wishes
Z
