I have found a Bog brush is a handy thing to get into the wheels worst thing you can do is put them plastic spoke covers on they keep the dirt an damp under them an rust grows fast

Hi Glen.

Is it just dirt or is it rust that you need to remove?

To clean rusty spokes you may need some fine emery tape that you can loop around individual spokes and pull back and forth. This method has the disadvantage that it might also remove any remaining plating so you would have to do something to protect the bare metal from rusting again. Slightly less abrasive would be to use Scotchbrite pads but the less aggressive the medium the harder the work!

If just dirt then I spray the spokes and rims with WD40 and just sit down with a fie Scotchbrite pad and cloths and just patiently work my way around the wheel.

Am I right in thinking that purple wheels have steel spokes and the later silver ones used stainless steel spokes?

I don't recall my blue TTR's spokes having any rust whereas it used to plague the white TTRs over here in the UK where salt is used on the roads in winter confuse

Brian

I use metal polish. Stainless for the spokes and aluminum for the rims. Not that I do it very often.
