Touring NZ on our TTR's
Permalink

Hello,

Just joined the forum, some good stuff.

I normally live in Scotland but am currently travelling around NZ with my partner on our two TTR's. A blue 2014 and a White 1996.

Back in Scotland we normally ride a 1992 XT600 and a 1992 Serow 225. We picked up our TTR's in NZ, both totally standard when we got them. I did a few modifications to them on the road, made rear racks, upgraded lights, modified side stands, wired in USB chargers and black out switches...and will continue modifying them to suit our needs. I've put together a tool kit and spares box that I find works for everything we have needed. We are working on a budget and picked most of our luggage and tools at charity shops and other places.

We love the bikes. We have had some issues but nothing that could't be fixed at the road side. NZ is a beautiful place to tour and the TTR's are the perfect bikes for the job.

Cheers,

Ian

Welcome Ian!
Some very Austin Vince-like luggage racks there. Good work!
Ride safe,
Simon.

Where are you planning on visiting? I spent a few months in NZ a few years ago. Our transport was a Toyota Starlet :(

are you in the south or north island...
south is the better if you want to get into a bit of ADV riding..

Don't know if you have seen Josh's or Eddie's sites really worth a look
if you want to get off the beaten track....

Cheers Mossproof.

They were acquired from out the back of a supermarket and bent into shape, work a treat. Just need some metal ammo top boxes.

Hi Petenz,

We are in the south on the west coast just now. We have spent the winter in the south and seen quite a bit of it and will be in the north island by new year. Thanks for the links to the sites will have a good look through them. We have done quite a bit of off roading and beach riding, Not many places back home that we can get away with that so really enjoying the freedom.
