Bearing maintenance after wet ride?

Went through a few fords last weekend and have hit some deep-ish puddles in the past, although I don't think I've actually gone over the hub...

Are there any checks/maintenance procedures tips/tricks that can be carried out from time to time to easily and simply check for corrosion, re-grease, etc... ?

TBH, I've never even had the wheels off this bike yet, so I'm starting from ground zero!

Thanks

I used to lay my TTR on its side and power wash the underneath until I realised the problem with water getting into the linkage bearings no

All I can suggest is that you only power wash from the top and give the shock rod etc a good spray with WD40 (or similar) afterwards.

If you are lucky enough to have grease nipples just give them all a single pump after washing - don't overdo it or you may push the seals out.

If you have the time strip out, clean and re-grease the linkage bearings occasionally - frequency depending on how the TTR has been used or put away wet or whatever.

Be watchful of the chain side swingarm bearing cap. They can sometimes get chewed through or damaged underneath allowing water in. Most of the swingarms I have refurbished have had to have bearings and shaft replaced because of water ingress on the sprocket side. The LH side is usually perfectly OK. You can help prevent such damage by making sure the chain slider is in good condition and maybe run a 14T front sprocket instead of 13T to keep the chain that bit further away.

If you haven't pulled the axles yet then I recommend you do so that (a) you know they move and (b) you can clean and re-grease to make sure they come out easily if you have to pull a wheel out whilst on the lanes wink
