Hey guys.

Need your input.gearing on the ttr isnt quite right.

Running 13.44.

Most the riding im doing is a mix of forrest work.tight rutty single track.some fire tracks and also open trails.some rocky some dusty some creeks every thing oz!

Road transfers are not that long maybe 15.20klm max

Whats the go.

Was thinking 13 48?

Seems to b popular.

Sounds similar to my riding 

I've had 13 / 48 for ages good in steep stop start stuff 

currently running 14/48 which makes 3rd and fourth gear great for the forest 

and a days ride lately can be 200 plus ks so can handle a bit of 110kph where possible

Hey ttboof.
Pulled a huge 60klm today 3 hr later.
All slow going stuff.some longer fire track stuff etc.
Mud track's rocks water and stuff.
Brian i feel im to to high or to low atm for the terrian we have been doing.lucky the tractor will pull from nothing.
Could do with a bit more pull tho!

Sounds good 13 48 would be good for that 

we have struck sections of track in the Barrington tops hardest section was 7ks in 5hours  but lots of fun 

the cells river gorge in the way back from gingers creek on the Oxley highway is only 110ks but can't take about 8 hours in the wet 

spoilt for choice in the manning valley

I run 13 / 50 because we like riding tight single track, typically 1st and 2nd and 3rd gear stuff. We trailer our bikes into the bush so the only open stuff is 4wd tracks to link up more single track. It will still pull 100kph plus no worries but first is nice and low. (wheelies;0 ) A full afternoon's riding we might do 60 km max. Usually less.

I run 14 / 44 for desert rides where you are riding 5th and 6th gear mostly. By way of comparison on these rides we might do 250 km a day.

So 13 /48 would be spot on for tight stuff with some transport sections.

Thanx guys.
Some of the open flowing tracks maybe 60-80kph but i asuume this gearing will still be spot on.
On the road we probably only sit on 80-100 just dont want it to be screaming at these speeds aswel

When I fitted the 120/90-18 D606 it took the edge off so I dropped the front sprocket to 13T & it's perfect for me, dirt roads, twin track, summer tracks & the Flinders. Still has enough speed.

G'day blokes.
I've discovered the first, minor issue with a 15t counter shaft sprocket.

The teeth jag onto the new swing arm slider.

Think I will need to make a minor mod with a heated wire coat hanger or the tip of a soldering iron.

 

I may have mentioned it but, the 15:50 gearing I'm starting with is because I intend to tour on the bike and, larger sprockets give the chain an easier life.

I hope that carrying a 14t sprocket may be the only one I need to change to for sand etc.  Yep, I'll be putting my logic to the test.

Hey as long as it fits. Front sprockets are cheap so I like your logic.

I run 13/48 everywhere. Perfect in the bush and I adv ride with the same gearing. Sits on 100 no problem - I tend to cruise at about 90, sweet spot for me and the bike, lot less wind turbulance than at 100 I swear. Anyway, I'm not on roads that have a speed limit of 100 very much. Having said that, I've sat on 100 or 110 for an hour or more many times when I've needed to - if I was to tour somewhere with big bikes and long klms I'd change the 13 up to a 14, easy fix.
