twisted forks, how to straighten
Permalink

My son washed out the front end of the TTR, now the forks and handlebars are not aligned.  The bars are favoring the right side of the bike.  Do I need to loosen to the headstem bolt, or do I start with the triple clamps and front axle?  I would appreciate your kind assistance with this.

Thank you.

Normal procedure when that happens on the lanes is to find a gateway and whack the steering straight using the gate post as the stop for the front wheel.

You can get more technical in the garage and loosen the 8 bolts (only a tiny bit) on the fork yokes and straighten it all up in comfort wink

Start with just the tripleclamps.
You can put a straight piece of wood or metal across the fork legs (either through the spokes, or above, first moving the fork gaiters out of the way) to make alignment easier to see (line up by eye with the handlebars)

I tend to also put a long straight piece of metal down the side of the two wheels- shows if the frame is bent & allows you to adjust forks with confidence
