Comfortable seat for standard ttr
Permalink

hello all , does anyone know of a comfortable seat I can buy fir my blue ttr , I took it out yesterday for ride up to the ABR rally at Banbury , really pleased with the little bike , I did bin it on the enduro course forgetting I wasn't on my xt660 and didn't give it enough beans up a very steep hill , almost made it !!! The only thing I don't like is the seat it's really uncomfortable on a 80 mile round trip , I have a seat concepts seat on my DRZ and you can ride that all day no problem , the same with my xt660r the seat is great , any ideas guys ???

I did a big search when I wanted a better seat for mine. You're going to have to either mod your own seat (which I did cause I'm a tight arse ;)) or an upholsterer/custom seat maker. No one does an aftermarket comfy seat for our little bikes to my knowledge

I have a sheep skin pad with 2 elastic straps slips over the seat I got it for long trips around Europe on the BMW F650 they use to give me numb bum with the vibes from the motor after an hour it has seen many a mile in the last 20 years and works a treat. it go's on the TTr if I have an hours ride or more too anywhere. cant remember where I got it.

Thanks for the replies , the seat has a grippy Enjoy cover on and I'm thinking that and a pair of new Klim Dakar trousers with not much padding might have been the problem , I'm going out later to try my old trousers and see if it makes any difference.

I've also been thinking about trying to shape a bit of foam from another bike. Eg grab a seat concepts xt250 seat foam and cover and see if it will fit? I'm also going to try a sit n fly seat cover I've got in the shed. They are supposed to work well. I have to cut mine down though as I bought a large. A ttr is a medium :)

The Raid seat is much comfier than the blueys. Wonder if it's down to the foam or the width.

Can sit in the Raid seat all day, but on the bluey... Numb arse.

See http://ttr250.activeboard.com/t44178935/interchangeability-of-open-enduro-and-raid-seats-and-tanks/

You need to fit the Raid seat and tank as a pair I recall....

yes..seat and tank as a complete set, or it looks funny.(gappy)

I recently bought a bike that came with an airhawk bum softener! https://airhawk.net/

They are not cheap, BUT are interchangeable between your bikes.

As others have said- a cheap fix is to use a sheepskin or cycle shorts with a gel inside them also works- something like this

On my GS, I have an airhawk and use cycle shorts for distances exceeding 500km per day.  Make a big difference, even if it looks like you crapped your pants...

It is my belief that at some point Yamaha decided to use Beech (or Deal) instead of foam in the TTR seat, perhaps on the basis that it would retain its profile for longer. After all, wood is widely used in the furniture industry... <¬O

For those darn sarf in the UK, I'm going to give these people a call and see what they can do...

TTR seats are pretty soft and comfortable. Try riding any late model bike with covered planks for seats.

You can try standing up more. Higher bars help make this more comfortable.

And if ya bums a bit sensitive I highly recommend you invest in some padded bike shorts for the longer rides.biggrin
Cheap on ebay, expensive in bike shops.

I have a purple/grey OE seat and a purple/grey Raid seat and they're both comfortable and soft. I also have what began life as a pink OE seat, and the foam is much harder. May be age-hardened, or the others are work-softened. Who knows? I recovered the pink seat in black and put it on my black/gold bike that my brother uses - he daren't complain or I'll get him to start paying me for the rebuild! A re-foam should not cost too much.

I got quoted $450 Australian dollars for a re-foam and re-cover from a motorcycle seat place! For reference that's more than a quarter of what I paid for the bike!blankstare

Wow! How do they justify that. Space foam flame retardant antigravity?

That's why I did it myself. Anything made in Australia or when you are paying someone locally to do anything (from a covering a ttr seat to a plumber) costs a bloody fortune.

Thanks for your input guys , I found the problem , the trousers I was wearing at the time were Klim dakars , I've just spent two days trail riding in France with different trousers no problem , l will wear the dakars on my DRZ , that's fitted with a seat concepts seat and doesn't give me bum ache with them on !!! ,

Pug, my wife is used to seeing me in Lycra trials gear , does make her laugh !!!

Kaos , I do stand up on all the trails , but riding standing up on main roads in the uk not good ,

I've got an air hawk and bar risers but hopefully won't need the air hawk now !!!
