Positive battery terminal connected to frame 1995 TTR250R
Permalink

Hi,

I have just bought a 1995 TTR250R. Battery has gone flat. I think it’s knackered. Strange thing is the negative terminal of the battery was connected to a red lead(well the lead was covered in black insulating tape for the first couple of inches then it joined with black tape to a red lead. The positive terminal was connected to the frame!

There was also a thinner cable connected to the positive terminal.

I  checked the white Yamaha TTR250RF workshop manual from ‘Totally TTRs’ and on page 278 the diagram shows the negative terminal connected to the frame.

Is there something wrong with the wiring on my bike.

The bike ran fine when I bought it(apart from the sprag clutch banging)

Thanks  Tony

Odd!

This is how a correctly fitted battery should look with the red lead at the top (+ve) and black lead at the bottom (-ve).

The  thick red wire from the battery goes to the solenoid and the thinner red spur goes into the fuse holder via a bullet connector and then on to the ignition switch via a few more connectors.

This is what the battery +ve lead should look like. Steve has them in the shop here https://totallyttrs.com/epages/699105d9-e4cc-4b32-b236-84e72cd67f84.sf/en_GB/?ObjectID=5915990

The thick black lead at the bottom also goes to the solenoid and has a similar thin spur that feeds into the loom above the shock reservoir.
