Hi All,

Does anyone know what size crow foot spanner Brian used to hold the flywheel whilst undoing the flywheel retaining bolt. I can't read it on the photographs and need to remove the flywheel. If you're out there Brian can you remember the size??

Hi Gruf and welcome to the forum!

I am sure I recognise your moniker from another forum or parallel universe wink

The spanner I used was a plumbers wrench that a mate ground down to fit.

My recollection is that you can't get in there with a normal spanner and the plumbers wrench had a good angle on it.

I guess a possibility is to bend the end over on a normal open end spanner - obviously not from your favourite set biggrin

If I brave the rain I will measure up....

Brian

Hi Brian,

It's Graham in France! We did a few deals before you sold TotallyTTR to Steve. My TTR is making the "bang" when the engine stops so need to get it sorted. You are right that the generator casing stops you getting a normal end spanner in. The other option is to buy an air gun to shock it off. I've measured the boss flats with a vernier and it measure 28.80 mm so i guess the crow foot needs to be 28mm or 29mm. If you can measure it i would appreciate it before i buy anything.

Hope retirement is treating you well!!

Hi Graham - it all comes back to me now! I hope the weather is better in France than here......

I agree on your measurement.

A borrow of a windy gun might be worthwhile..

An alternative is to wedge an Allen key or similar into one of the holes on the outside of the flywheel and get it braced against your bike stand.

Brian

We have had some bloody hot weather! I was in the mountains with the TTR a few weeks ago too so it needs some tlc now, forks, shims etc. I'm going to try an impact driver tomorrow with my 1/2" drive first. If that doesn't work then i'll see if i can borrow an air gun. I don't even know the french for it mind so may end up with a puncture repair kit!!

If i get nowhere i might ask if you can have a look for the crow foot to see if i can buy one.

Many thanks Brian....

Gruf

Managed to do it once with a pair of adjustables - see photo below.

The trick is to tighten the extractor up as hard as you can and then give it a clout with a hammer - the jarring usually frees it wink

I just used a large spanner that fitted 😁 off the top of my head something like a 30 or 32?
