Sprag Clutch - where to buy
Permalink

Hi all,

I've just joined so hello. Great forum. I gave up biking 20 odd years ago and have just returned and I'm well impressed with the quality of info in this forum. When I was biking the internet had not quite grown - so no real forums. But I've been using car forums and the info here is really a different class.

I've just bought a 1995 TTR250R with the dreaded bang when stopping the engine. So I'm looking to replace the sprag clutch. I tried 'Totally TTRs' website but they have none in stock. They also seemed to be more than double the cost than same part from the USA. Can anyone recommend where I can buy the sprag clutch, flywheel puller and cover gasket. I could also do with the grommet that the wiring harness passes through into the alternator/flywheel cover as there is a leak coming from it. If anybody has part numbers that'd be great.

Thanks in advance

Tony

Welcome to the forum, Tony.

I'm surprised that the USA bits can be cheaper than Totally TTR's. confuse

P'raps others reading your plight may have a spare sprag they don't want. hmm

Thanks for the welcome Martyn. Yes the USA bits are cheaper but shipping adds up. But Totally TTRs don't have any in stock anyway :(

Hi Tony & welcome

We had a run on the sprags and have some on the way to us, where have you found them for less than half my price? Also the fly wheel pullers should be back in soon.

Gaskets are on the shelf, but without the rest not much goodcry As for the leak have you tried a sealant ?

Steve

I once went down the route of purchasing a Chinese version of a sprag clutch from ebay, believing I was saving ££.
It arrived and was poor quality. I then purchased from TotallyTTRs. I should have done this sooner. You are in UK also

Hi Steve,

 Thanks for the welcome.

Partzilla(apparently Genuine Yamaha) and Partpak both about 100 bucks/£75(apparently Genuine Yamaha). I hadn’t realised the pound had fallen so much so no, you/Totally TTRs are not more than double price at £135- my apologies. Also as I stated delivery charges will probably be more from USA. When do you think you will have the new stock in?

Regarding the using sealant, that is my fall back plan – but I’m guessing the existing rubber grommet may be dried out/perished so I’d like to replace it. Then again any new grommet may have to be split to get it over the harness which may present more leak paths.

I’m having trouble registering on the Totally TTRs website – the home page says to register “Please Sign In (top left).” – but I can’t see anything ‘top left’. Or am I missing something?

Good point RodYork ref cheap patterns.

Thanks in advance

Tony

Hi Tony

Just above the product search, not at the very top is a sign in.

Don't forget anything bought from outside the EU will incur customs charges/ VAT and handling fees, which all make it more expensive than it seems.

Hope they will be in next week, if you get signed in you can select the notify me when in on the sprag clutch and you will get an email when in.

Steve

See attachment for the view I get on my home computer and work computer. But I found sign out/in above 'product search' as per Steve's instructions. Steve, I have tried to dig 'notify on availability' but nothing happens- no confirmation pop up etc.
