Out product testing
Permalink

Hi All

I am product testing a brand new full stainless steel exhaust, that has been made up for me by a very nice man in Stafford.

So i fitted the exhaust and straight away you can hear the difference in exhaust note! A  much more raspier affair, so I did a decibel reading using a app on my phone, the new exhaust is only 6 decibels louder than the stock exhaust (which is very quite) I am pleased with this, as it is a really nice sound, without being loud.

So I phoned up Oly and Rich to come out product testing with me this evening (any excuse for a ride) Straight away I could feel the difference in power on the bike (though I do have a shorty header pipe as well) It pulls like a train and is very quick, a noticeable difference!

I had to mess around with the air screw on the carb a bit to get it running right and it is still not perfect, but I think my carb really needs cleaning, as it was playing up a bit  with a standard exhaust fittedcry

Once I have cleaned the carb and air filter I can do more product testingsmilesmile

Here is a sneaky peak of the new exhaust ( Bit dirty from our ride out)

Oh nearly forgot, it is very close to 1.5kg lighter than the stock exhaust!!!!!!!!

Oh and a picture of the three amigo's bikesbiggrin

Good to see you guys getting out on the lanes!

And well done Steve for persevering in getting a replacement exhaust following the sad demise of Motard.

I did attend the initial fitting and sound testing and can confirm that it is a nice looking exhaust wink

Good to see another exhaust system on the go, always after the ideal exhaust

Joined Steve last night and think the exhaust looks really good. Its the right balance of a slight increase in volume and a good note. Will be trying it on mine to confirm about the jetting.

Just a quick update

Cleaned and replaced some parts in the carb and now confirm that this exhaust is fantastic! I am very happy indeed.

No messing about with this exhaust, bolt on and away you go

My bike flies like it never did before.

Will post up some more pictures and a video soon.

Steve

Good work Steve. Is it much louder than the Motad? Light weight, free flowing and a reasonably social volume is the holy grail!

Next stage dyno testingsmile

Stage after that, test on a 350biggrin

Hi Simon

3 decibels louder than a Motad and 6 decibels louder than the stock exhaust, so not annoying sound. Is much raspier, but nice sounding, will post up some video/ sound recording soon, but going to get it Dyno testing first as you have suggested. Hope the results will be good, as it runs really well, my bike does feel faster with it onsmile

I have the first batch of silencers turning up tomorrow and thought I would give a quick update before they go in the shopsmile

So I have run the OS pipe on my blue bike using a 137 50 jetting and it ran perfectly and seems so much better than the stock, very responsive and seems a whole lot quicker.

I then run it on my OE and it felt just as good as it did on my blue bike, bang on the throttle and pulls like a trainsmilesmilesmile  I have not checked the jetting on the OE but should be standard.

This means it is a straight bolt on with no mods needed (unless your bike has been modified) for all models, I am very happy indeed!

I am still having trouble with facebook on my PC, so I may post some video here.

Should be £225 including gasket and clamp, seeing a FMF is more than that, I think it is a bargain. Just to re cap full stainless steel silencer, hand made , weighing nearly 1.5kg less than the stock exhaust, sounds much better, runs (in my opinion) better and sounds so much nicer, raspier with little extra loudness and that will mellow as it gets a nice carbon deposit insidesmile

I have already sold one before they have arrived, Mike came around and I showed him the prototype and he pre ordered one, as he loved the sound and looksmilesmile

Missing the handy feature of the old motard . Blows up camp mattress in a few seconds .

This got me thinking would the exhaust be able to work as a pump to blow up tyres with some kind of valve and a bit of tube .

Will get to  work on a device or would the back pressure damage the engine .

The gas is quiet cool at low revs not as hot as you might expect .

Random note for you Steve, I am pretty sure the FMF Q4 is no longer made for the TTR, just the ear breaker powercore 4. Its not on FMF's website and I can't find any for sale anywhere on the web/Amazon/Fleabay etc.

Anyone else able to verify this?

P.S. Gee you would get a great really long nights sleep if the mattress deflates during the night biggrin

Yup Q4 was stopped years ago, sometimes you find one advertised as a Q4 but it's always a powercore.

I got caught with that :(

It's all gone Pete Tongnonono

So Roy sent me the first batch of 5 new exhausts yesterday, not sure what was going on, but he changed the design and altered the baffling insideconfuseconfuse WHY would someone alter the perfect prototypefuriousfuriousfurious It really was great, ran perfectly on the OE and the Bluey with no mods to the carb needed.

I had the first potential customer here with his friend and we unpacked the exhausts and were all shocked that they had been changed, a bigger pipe on the back, the bracket had changed and the captive nut was all wrong.

Anyway we all thought what the hell let's get it fitted, when we did I was horrified to hear the sound had changed, no louder on tick over but when given some beans it was horrid, a proper horrible noise that was way to loudnono

Then we took the bike out for a spin and the performance was also terrible, no top end power and my heart really sank.cry I worked really hard with Roy to get a great prototype done, that added more power was lighter and sounded nicer than the stock exhaust, so why did he go and change it confuseconfuseconfuse

He can't really give me an answer and thought he was doing it right, but alas it is just plain wrong, I have sent them back to him and I am having to start all over againfuriousfuriousfurious

So It may be a bit longer until we have some new ones in stock.

Lisa has found someone who bought the Jigs from Motad and we are hoping that they still have the TTR One's, will keep you all updated.

Steve
