Hi every one, I just bought my first 2011 TTR250 with 520km on the clock! I know good find right! Don't worry it cost me a pretty penny to have it shipped interstate.

I just took off all the blinkers and number plate holder as it will be used for dirt at this stage.

Anyway I was just wondering if anyone can tell me what this second keyhole is for? The key fits but doesn't seem to lock or anything? Is it some kind of master lock or something?

Thanks.

Hey Mate, Welcome

That second keyhole is the steering lock :)
make sure your wheels almost hard left push the key in and turn it half forward (unless its jammed like mine was at 1st)

Welcome to TTR land, Sash.

Your bike looks really good, well done.

The additional key slot above the ignition is the steering lock.

To work it you put the steering fully to the left, slip the key in and press it in, turn the key and pull it out and it leaves the lock on.

Martyn

Thanks! yeah it arrived Sunday arvo and unfortunately I was working so I haven't had a chance for a proper ride yet. This Saturday is planned to get messy! Its got 14-44 cogs atm so hopefully it will go ok? Thanks to this forum Ive found I will need a set of  13-48 or similar for the dirt.

Before you go getting a 13 for the front try 14-48 first.
If u dont do a lot of slow technical work with lots of steep hill climbs, the 13-48 combo will make you 1st 3 gears usless for normal dirt work.

Ok thanks for the tip! Not much technical stuff and no massive hills so I will give that a go. I guess i will still need a longer chain though.

When I got my first "Euro" TTR it had 14/44 gearing but also a 13 tooth sprocket in the goodies bag. I guess this is so that owners could change the gearing and still use the standard chain.  So a 13T sprocket might be a cheap and easy way to test if that suits you without having to spend too much money wink

Thanks Brian, unfortunately my goodies bad was emptyhmm but I guess that's an option. Did you ever try the 13/44 set up for dirt?

I'm running 14/48 its good in the dirt if you drop to 13/48 first gear is good for steep stop start stuff

Sticking with the 44 rear  is OK if your doing road and fire trail stuff and if you plan to cover larger distances

I changed my front sprocket to a 13T but running a 120/90 D606 & I go up some steep hills

For me the gearing is perfect, you can always check my videos for my style of riding
