Decompressor kit needed (?)

Hi guys,

I have got an 1995 Open Enduro which has got an electric starter button as well as a kick starter lever. It is pretty difficult to kick start it, although I must admit I have not got much experience in kick starting my bikes. Do I need a decompressor kit or anything for it? If so, can anyone send me the right part(s)?

I attach a picture of my cylinder head so that you can see what I have got at the moment.

Thanks

Balint

I'd be tempted to remove anything to do with the decompressive and fit a decompressive plug. I think it was only the first year TTRs that came with the decompressors and later years were just plugged.

I certainly don't have problems starting either of my TTRs which both have kickstarters and decompressor plugs

Good advice smile

I do 2 types of plugs in the shop https://totallyttrs.com/epages/699105d9-e4cc-4b32-b236-84e72cd67f84.sf/en_GB/?ObjectID=1655063&ViewAction=FacetedSearchProducts&SearchString=decompressor&=&SearchButton=

The rubber ones are out of stock, but should be in soon.

Steve

Mine had one too which leaked so i blanked it of with a plug as shown above. If its not leaking is there any reason to remove it?

There is no leak on mine. However, I have got a little problem with kickstarting as the engine won't start that way. Perhaps I still need to refine my techniques...
Mine is not plugged but the part is there, so I would not mind if it worked. Perhaps it wold start more easily then. However, I cannot see any cable, lever and stay on the internet.

Hi Balint

I'm sure Brian has a cable and a lever somewhere, but he is on holiday until the end of the month, I will find out then for you. I am surprised it won't start on the kicker though confuse

Mines an oe too and i have trouble starting it from cold on the kicker. Once is warmed up all you have to do is rest your foot on it and it'll fire.... strange really.

The bike is pretty new to me and I have been busy recently, so I didn't have time to master the technique of kick starting the TTR. However, I tried it a few times and strangely it did not start. It has no problem with the electric button but I want the kick starter to operate flawlessly, too, as I have spent a lot of time, energy and money to refurbish the whole bike and I would not feel comfortable if the kick starter did not work properly. Thank you Steve for letting me know about the possibility with Brian's spare parts. I have no access to the bike for two weeks now as I am away from home due to work, so it is fine to get back to it towards the end of this month. I am used to riding big, heavy bikes (over 1000 ccm and 270-300 kgs) and must admit I am kind of falling in love with this little, nimble toy.

Mines a 2010 Ozzy one .was a pig to start from cold until I went up one size on the pilot jet then no worries .as for the kick starter I haven't used it much but it doesn't turn the motor very quick ,a bit awkward and is only good as a back up and its handy to have though

Ohh, good to know it even can be related to jetting. Lovely. Jetting on this TTR is pretty foggy to me anyway. On my bike I have got a main jet (127.5), a pilot jet (50) and a needle jet (V95). My manual says the original jets should be 142, 48 and V05... The size of my main jet is something that nobody seems to have on their TTR... I am going to tune this bike somehow in a way that everything will be fine on it.
