Aftermarket exhaust options.

Hi people,

I was wondering what aftermarket exhaust options would fit a 1997 open enduro?

Totally TTRS, how much would postage be for the full system to Australia? I would love to buy alot of gear from your shop as you put so much into this forum, however, postage is a big one.

TerryK does the staintune come with a header pipe and are you happy with it now with a new restrictor?

Anyone else got any good aftermarket systems on their pre 1998 open enduro's?

Thanks in Advance.

The Staintune is a slip on, but as I said in another post bit too loud @ 94db even with the new restrictor it's still too loud

Are you after a quote for the Motad, with the shorty header pipe, or just the Motad?

You will need to PM me a full address and phone number for a quote or email sales@totallyttrs.com. Happy to quote.

Steve

I wonder if the Staintune is actually 94db? It might be but I am suspicious it would be louder, test rode a bike with one for someone and the thing was an ear splitter.

My DRZ is loud and the insert from B&B I put on the exhaust says 96db, and its not nearly as loud as the staintune I heard. Sample size of one though. FMF Q4 is what I would probably buy, and will one day. I like a bit of a note but not excessive as it annoys and is a bad look. My standard exhaust is a bit naff, but at least it doesn't drone on all day.

I had a staintune on my TTR when I first got it, don't know about Baffles or anything but it was offensive

Barrett Exhaust, in Richmond, NSW do a slip on for the TTR

check out the gallery here with a TTR, http://www.barrettexhausts.com.au/yamaha-gallery.html

I have a Pro Circuit T4S on my DRZ, an extremely light and solidly welded unit
not to bad sound wise but having said that I'm thinking I will mod the baffle in it to reduce the noise a bit more but a good unit

I also have a full stainless system for the DRZ from Barrett Exhaust, havent decided if I'm going to sell it or fit it yet

The Barrets are also very well made units, probably quieter than the Pro Circuit as they are a bit bigger and heavier filled with exhaust packing

..

Hard to guage the noise level, My Thruxton is 93db (Staintunes ) is not as loud as my Scrambler 91db (also Staintunes ) 270 degree crank on the Scrambler V 360 degree on the Thruxton but the TTR at 94db is bloody loud as it barks a fair bit.

The WRR is perfect with the OEM exhaust & was hoping the TTR with the OEM would be the same but not so, there must be something out there to do the job & will continue to check my options.

Cheers Terry

They seem to be ok but would love to hear one, I guess they may be a deeper tone

Did you pick up the last of the MOTAD and Shorty pipe? Could be the last Motad manufactured!

I wanted a TK muffler back in 2013, rang Terry & he was working away in the mines & not making exhaust mufflers at that time, pity as the Staintune was my 2nd choice

I've got a TK pipe. It is loud but I always wear my custom earplugs so don't really mind. I got mine 2nd hand from gumtree. No idea if it's over 94db but it gives me a headache without earplugs. TK is a top bloke- my exhaust had a messed up sticker and he supplied me one free of charge!

I get noise reflecting back to me from the long standard mudguard. I've though about trimming it or replacing it to avoid that. It's something that hasn't been mentioned before on this thread. That standard guard is a huge mo-fo. If you find your exhaust too loud try taking off the rear mudguard (takes 2 minutes) and go for a spin. You might be surprised. I was.

My solution on a loudish Oshiro exhaust. Used a simple end-feed copper pipe fitting. Worked a treat smile

A big benefit is that pushing the gases downward a tad significantly reduces the noise that reaches our ears with no significant effect on performance.

Steve's Motad silencers also had provision for deflecting the exhaust away from the number plate.

So I rolled the dice and bought this 2002 with a Pro Circuit T-4 slip on, with the "silencer" and spark arrestor.  I say "rolled the dice" because the seller couldn't start it, which motivated him to accept a substantial discount, and I knew all along that it was ... wait for it ... the pilot jet!  Which has now been replaced.

So far so good, very clean.  But this pipe is loud even with the silencer.  I think its louder than my old 2 stroke YZ with the fatty.  I guess I'll just try to enjoy it.  The neighbor lady has already let me know how much she likes the full throated sound.

Fail -- I should have shot video of my 17 year old son firing it up for the first time, priceless expression, it sings to him at a pitch only the young can hear.

Whether it makes any performance difference I don't know, maybe I'll find out this weekend, and I can spend all summer swapping jets.  Interesting article on measuring performance increase from the new pipe: http://dirtrider.net/drn_tested/exhaust/426/pc426t4.html
