kickstarter gets stuck
Permalink

Hello guys,

I have got a question. Have any of you got a problem like me? Sometimes the kickstarter of my 1995 Open Enduro gets stuck and I cannot kickstart it. I only can start the engine using the starter button at such times. Checking the flywheel side I saw that the starter gear gets stuck sometimes. Most times it is OK, rotating smoothely and nicely but from time to time it sticks. What is it about and why is it? I wonder if it will be expensive to fix?

Oh, no-no. Thanks Moo. I wish the problem was something like that... But it is an inside problem. Actually the lever is not totally stuck. If I forced it, I could pull it down slowly.

it is probably the casing & shaft needs a clean or put bike on its side & get some wd40 on to shaft

Thanks Johny, but I think I have not made myself 100% clear. As I said the problem is on the other side with the flywheel/starter gear. It is not only about casing and cleaning.

Hi Balint

I think you will need to go inside and have a look, hopefully just something on the kicker has come loose/moved?

I have copied a photo of the kickstart "insides" to help understand what might be occurring.

The kickstart works directly on the clutch/transmission so any starter or sprag clutch faults will not affect its operation.

As Steve says, best to whip the clutch cover off and see what's happening inside.

The first thing to check would be that the big return spring isn't damaged and that it is hooked properly onto its retaining peg.

Thanks Steve, Brian, yes, it will certainly need a closer look behind the clutch cover then.
