Staintune muffler

After riding the WRR  since I bought it back in Aug 2016 I rode the TTR for the 1st time last week end, christ it was bloody noisy with the Staintune muffler.

I shot of a couple of email to Staintune & Redline exhaust to see if there were any modifications

From Staintune, they are producing a new end to reduce the bark, it is a longer restrictor at a cost of $45.00 aus

Redline said they could fit a DB killer to the Staintune for $80 aus or open up the OEM muffler for $140 aus

I rang Staintune today & they have them ready to go, will order tomorrow.

The TTR feels odd after the WRR & the WRR is perfect sound, the Staintune is louder than my XR400 was & will report back once the new restrictor is fitted

Terry

I spoke to Adam at Staintune yesterday & ordered the new restrictor, he can't tell what results I will get apart from the fact it will remove most of the bark.

I should get it by Monday & will post results once tested

Refitted the Staintune muffler today with the new insert, it is better for sure & has lost the bark, will give it a longer run on the weekend, the new insert has the mesh IMG_1787.JPGIMG_1788.JPG

Hi Terry, I was looking at getting a staintune for my 1997 ttr. So do you rate the staintune muffler now?

Did it make the bike breathe easier and rev more freely?

It made a difference & was better on fuel but I didn't rejet at all. My mate has a DG on his & I get better fuel range, same gearing, same tyres & were are the same height & weight.

I rode his on the weekend with the OEM muffler & it was shocking, since then he's put the DG back on.

Value for money with the Staintune @ $640 Au is over the top & I was expecting more as both my Triumph's have Staintunes & are perfect.
The Staintune is much lighter than the OEM, looks nice & the finish is very good.

The power gain is minor & after having a WRR that is perfect with the noise & power with the OEM muffler I might go the other way & have the OEM muffler opened up for $140, only disadvantage is the weight.

On a side note my mate with the DG said if he didn't have the DG he would put a Staintune on his TTR so he must be impressed. The local Yamaha dealer here was putting FMF Q4 mufflers on, not sure what they are like.

The Staintune is ADR approved @ 94db so at least it's legal, don't think I would put a Staintune on an old bike because of the cost unless you got it for a good price, I bought the bike new & fitted the Staintune two days after getting the bike so my cost is spread over a greater period, I did try to get a muffler made by Terry ( TK exhausts ) as they were reported as being the best for the TTR but he had closed the company.

Taking the TTR out today with the lads & will do around 200kms so I might add some comments later

Cheers Terry

Excellent all round improvement just loud enough to be annoying  .

Found an old plumbing fitting ground it down and added a few holes to stop a bit of a whistle it had pressed it in .  takes the edge edge off it will try it on the road when I get a chance  the yard is too wet and I'm not game to suffer the wrath getting it out of the shed .

Got out and tried the home made baffle  a bit quieter can't hear the exhaust at 100kph  . what it did do is improve the bottom and mid range power actually quite noticeable

I'm looking for a 45deg fitting to direct the noise down and away as mentioned elsewhere.

So far really happy with it
