No spark and not solenoid working?

Hi there!

i have a ttr 250 open enduro I recently purchased a new loom from totallyttrs as my old one when I checked has melted to the wire. The bike still started and rid before I took it off to buy a new one but ever since I've put my new one on I have no activity the light come on the clocks but theres no nutral light appearing (N) I press the electric start nothing works so I decided to bypass my solenoid then the bike started to turn over but I had no spark? Anyone out there who knows what it might be please get back to me on what it might be.

thank you.

Hi Jacob and welcome to the forum! You are not far away from me in Brizzel wink

Just checking a few points:

1. On the old loom, would the TTR start on the starter button? If so, that tends to indicate the starter switch and solenoid are good.

Did the speedo light up and the neutral light work on the old loom?

2. On the new loom, it seems that the main fuse and the ignition switch are working OK as you have lights. Are the headlight, tail light, brake light and indicators all working OK? Horn working?

How did you bypass the solenoid?

You can check the neutral light wiring is OK by undoing the little screw at gearbox neutral switch and shorting the terminal on the wire to earth. Does the green neutral light come on? If not, check the connection under the tank. See photo below for location of the neutral switch. Sorry its fuzzy!

Hi ttrfan and thank you and maybe go for a ride some day.!

the bike did run was riding it the day before it all worked perfect and yes the full beam works that's all I tried to be honest as I'm turning it into an off-road bike so I have no horn or indocators  the bike ATM and yes all the lights worked before and I bypassed by the solenoid by applying a pair of long nose pliers to the earth and negative on it to make the bike turn the stator motor but I have no spark I'm so confused about the bike I've never had to do this before and I made sure all the loom went into the right place but I still have no neutral light appearing could that by why?

Make sure that the connection block on the end of the stator is OK and the wires all in good condition. I had the same once and it was just that connection.

As for the neutral light, it could be just a blown bulb.

A faulty neutral switch/circuit will stop the starter/solenoid operating as the CDi (electronic black box brain on top of the airbox) will think you are in gear and cut off power to the starter switch and ignition coil hence no spark.

So it is important that you try what I suggested and check the neutral wire.

Don't know if this is big enough to read properly! Maybe download it into your picture viewer so you can big it up a bit wink

It would also be worth checking the clutch switch as that should bypass the neutral switch and let you start the TTR with the bike in gear and the clutch pulled in.

Don't want to insult you, or state the bleeding obvious, but a mate of mine called the AA out to his Triumph when it wouldn't start one day. The "knight of the road" flicked the handlebar kill switch to "run", smirked and got back in his van!
It does sound like something in the starter inhibitor circuit - clutch switch, neutral switch or kill switch.
