Oil pump cover

Every ad I see for a TTR oil pump includes a little semicircular tin guard.

Every engine I have opened up has had no such guard fittedconfuse

Is someone taking them off before I get in there or were they not always fitted? This is my experience on both pre and post Y2K engines. Not sure of the purpose exactly - can anyone enlighten me - it's not exactly to stop you trapping your fingers in the drive gear is it? Reduced oil fling onto the clutch?

Cheers,

Simon.

Nothing to do with fingers Simonbiggrinbiggrin

Mr Yamaha fitted them to the earlier bikes, but they were removed later on, not sure why, ask the Bri! (that rhymesbiggrinbiggrin)

Mines still got it, I'd say it to stop the oil pump jamming up if any crap got in the bottom end , doesn't the cam chain also run behind that cover ? It would stop the cam chain coming off when rebuilding the engine too. Numerous little things it can help with

Probably removed as not important as such and saves yamaha few pence on each engine
