Crank Cases

It's been over a year since I last posted, I think, but I've been busy in that time, I've acquired more motorbikes, been building a Jimny into an off-roader and assorted projects. Ten motorbikes and 3 project cars have meant my poor TTR has been repeatedly pushed to the back of the pile and into the corner of the garage.

Anyway, April 2015, I broke the post inside the engine that holds the gear selector in place. My question is: Is it better to strip it down and replace the crank cases or, get it welded back together? Another question I have been weighing up is: Is it worth wanging a load of chemical metal over it? I ask this because the crank cases on my CRM 250 have been held together with chemical metal for a year and nothing happened, but this part will be under a bit more strain, hence it broke in the first place.

An issue I have come across is that I have no space to strip the engine down, which is the only reason it's taking so long to do.

Thanks, Adam.
