got to try out my suspension for the first time since a full service i am realy happy with it
the ride was 200km in the cells river area which due to the hard going took 9 hours.
the rear shock rebiuld by pro moto, wr 250 internals with heavier dampimg and gassed to 175lbs, standard spring, worked well much firmer while decreasing harshness excelent mix of handling and comfort ($175)
the fronts i had tried everthing i knew bur with some tips from promoto from the days ttrs used to be a race bike it was easy to transform the forks into great off road units
i did this myself in about an hour. Fluid change to silkoline light, the secret to reducing dive is raise the oil height to 100mm., fitted 5mm spacers on top of the springs and set the clickers at 8 turns out (cost of two litres of oil )
now very responsivd in the initial stroke and much firmer in the second part of the stroke great all round set up its great to say goodbye to the nose dive with out resorting to heavier springs
been riing off road yamahas for 40 years im finaly happy with a set up. and im a bit fussy
the suspesion works well but on tracks with lots of small quick bumps ..rocks/tree roots type terrain it stuggles... apart from the suspension the TTR makes a great play/B grade enduro bike...
i have halfed the pre-load spacer length & have CST 18 oil in them "about a 7 weight" no air pressure..
As for the rear shock it's interesting what you were told about the
internals being the same as a WR250... As Ohlins make a valve head
for the WR shock.... i better go have a talk with Lintren....
Slight typo the internals from the ttr250r fit the rear shock then can be adjusted to suit you (also conformed by technic )
For the front they suggested 5wt or a mix to 7;5w to how your taste.
But ive found the light oil is tracikng on small sharp hits. But the higher oil height is what really made them great under braking and long down hills with no air pressure needed
(adding air increases the effect on the rebound which can put you off line especially with lighter oil )
