Fingers ground back on front caliper

Just going through and refurbishing some front calipers and came across this one. I am trying to fathom out why the fingers were ground back coz it is now just scrap confuse

brian you will find allsort of things in the biking fatornity such as roofing bolts i have found in the past

Has the pad come out while in use? Or have they fitted a pad from another bike requiring caliper surgery? Option 2 seems more believable.

It looks to have been deliberately ground off.

My puzzlement concerns the caliper pins. If they tried fitting a different pad the base of the pad with holes for the pins wouldn't fit into the base of the caliper confuse
