Jetting help with 1996 Raid
Permalink

I have been playing with jets on my 1996 Raid lately. My bike has the snorkel out, no restrictor.

Before it ran fine, but the first 1/4 was weak so I changed the #50 pilot to a 52.5. The new power was instantly noticeable. However, beyond about 1/4 -1/3 it weakens for a bit, then picks up again. Every single time. Mixture screw was completely screwed in.

I thought the bike still ran lean, since the spark plug was white, so I changed the main jet from 145 to 147.5. At first it was really nice and smooth power from bottom to top, but the next day, when I rode the bike to work, it misfired a lot, especially at midrange. Sometimes when I reved up to midrange it ran fine for a few seconds then it misfired.

I took out the carb again, cleaned it spotless, and tried the 140 main. Now it is smooth but still misfires sometimes, and the 1/4 power is lost. I'm quite puzzled.

AS far as I know, in terms of carb and engine the raid is the same as the blue TTR. Can anyone recommend a solution?

Also, my carb is apparently lacking the "check valve". The previous owner must have lost it. What does it do?

Thanks.
