August Ride in North Somerset - now with photos!

Thought I'd give plenty of notice for this one. Provisional date is Saturday 6th Aug, but is flexible at this stage.

A days riding the lanes of the Mendip Hills and more lanes south of Bristol and Bath. It will be a good mix, and will be suitable for all abilities. The main plan is to have a laugh.

I have a field on a hill which is great for riding and camping on, so why not make a weekend of it and bring the family too.

Be good to see some old (and haggled) faces and some new ones.

Let me know if interested and we can firm up on details.

Cheers, Mark

Yeah might well be able to do.

You allowing people to bring a friend along or strictly TTR's?

What sort of time were you thinking of starting?

Be good to have you along Pete. We'll limit the numbers to about 6, so just ttr's for now. If there's not much response, we can invite some orange or red etc to join us. Start around 9. Mark

I'd love to if I can get a lift up there for bike!
I could bring the family and tent by car.

Has anyone got room to transport my bike there and back?
Steve? biggrin

Mark,

If there's any spaces left I'd like to tag along. You might need me to keep those Devon boys under control. I hope there's no pasties shops on the run, otherwise we're in trouble!

Boz

Enjoy the trip, Lads. smile

Dont let Boz get his new steed grubby and watch what Mr TTR eats - he will already be full of Birthday Cake and Pasties so needs to take care. biggrin

Lovely day promised but take care of yourselves and each other.

Looking forward to seeing your vids and hearing more about the trout tickling incident Steve!

I was completely shattered when I got home yesterday so didn't get to post anything up. Feeling a bit livelier this morning but not by much no

It was an early start yesterday. Up at 5.30am to make the final preparations for our TTR250 forum trail riding day up at Wookey in the Mendip Hills of Somerset following a kind invitation by Mark (Goalkeeper).

My brother Trev (Trev McRev) did the driving honours in his trusty Passat (over 200,000 miles on the clock and still going strong!) with our TTRs in the trailer. Steve and Olly rocked up on time to pick up Boz's 325 which he had bought unseen and untried! Easily fitted in Steve's van.

We set off with Steve following and made good time despite the SatNav having a hissy fit at the end as the field we were meeting in had no postcode. Fortunately I had printed out a small section of OS map showing the field and we soon found Mark out on the road with his TTR waving us into the gateway.

What an beautiful location! Mark has a 6-acre field with a caravan and awning set up and a pucca composting dunny built by his own fair hands (well - he is a plumber!) up at the top of the field with a stunning view of the surrounding countryside.

 WhatsApp Image 2016-08-06 at 08.54.34 (1).jpeg

Mark has created a few tracks in the field and Olly was soon blatting around to check out how slippery damp grass can be biggrin

Trev and Mark checking out the route:

Whilst Mark's lovely missus Danni served up tea and bacon baps biggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrin

Steve almost ready to go:

DSCF7812.JPG

Boz was travelling down from Leamington Spa and was a bit delayed by traffic around Bristol but that just gave us more time to eat bacon butties and drink more tea!

He seemed quite pleased with his new steed smile

DSCF7811.JPG

After lots of banter we got going just after 10am and it was already scorchio!

I only got a few photos of when we were out and about and am hoping Steve's vids come out OK to show what we got up to.

L to R - Steve, Boz, Trev. Mark and Olly

L to R - Steve, Boz, Trev, me and Mark

DSCF7820.JPG

It was pretty darn hot out there so nice to stop and the get the helmets off occasionally and cool down a bit.

DSCF7822.JPG

Boz was on a promise so needed to get back at a sensible time which suited Trev and I as we were both knackered through being very unfit disbelief  so I changed my SatNav into road GPS mode, plumbed in the dodgy postcode for the field and mainroaded it back to camp. The other the lads were camping overnight so had no time restraints and were going to go "North" to ride another nest of lanes.

Great day and I really appreciate Mark having set it up and provided such great hospitality and showing us his riding territory. Some lovely lanes, beautiful countryside and views. And, of course, great banter wink

Thanks guys!

Brian

Smashing bit of England with good weather, good mates and good banter - what more could you want? biggrin

I see you were on Horace Batchelor's doorstep - you could have popped in and asked about his Infra-Draw method.  confuse    hmm

It certainly seems to have been a good outing and I can't wait to see Steve's videos. smile

An amazing day out.
Thank you Mark.
And a special thank you to Danni for the bacon sarnies and brew at the start of the day, that was very welcome.
Some really good lanes, brambles included
Even the overgrown lane was an adventure
The stony inclines and down hills were interesting, but that's what laning is all about
Looking forward to seeing what Steve caught on camera...blankstare
My biking fitness levels are very poor, so as Bri said, breaking off to let the others continue was a good idea
I slept like a log last night!

Aha, the curse of Steve and his camera. It came back and bit him on the arse yesterday. Lovely 😆😆
Thanks all for making the journey to Somerset. I loved showing you around the local lanes.
Naboo is missing you all and wants the know when you'll be coming back.

It was a shame you weren't there Pug. Come up when you have more time.

Works fine Steve!

It was also good fun swapping bikes although Boz seemed keen to stick with the TTR he was on wink

In case anyone is worrying Naboo is a sweet little Patterdale Terrier - very friendly - 7 yo but with the energy of a puppy. Cute little beard for a girl biggrin

Gopro session, brilliant and the quality is great, the problem was the end userwinkwink

I read that it will record upright even if upside down and I had the camera at 90 degrees, which it wont rotate, so when editing and rotating I was left with what you seecrycrycry

Do you / anyone know how to rotate without losing the size????

Steve

kind of depends on what edit software you are using I use Quicktime as it's the only one that will work with me Thc x cam and I no my way round it and have kept using it with the VIO POV cams you can flip the video anyway you like with that. I do know it's easer to play with 720 hd than 1080 unless you have a wiz bang pc set up to handle the job or a high end games pc

I feel just the same ttboof. Would love to do a big ttr ride sometime. Don't know any other ttr riders at all, apart from on here. All my mates have WR450's and DRZ's

Looks like a great ride guys.

P.S. it would be cool to organise a big ride like they do with the Tenere tragics  http://teneretragics.blogspot.com.au/

Does indeed look like good fun.  Thanks for the photos and videos - especially like the going swimming one.  We should organise a ride for those of us in Victoria.  Plenty of space in the hills behind my place around Rubicon and Lake Eildon wink

And I'd be happy if other marques turned up - we're not as posh as those poms
