Clutch basket loose? /// scrape marks

In the process of fitting an oil cooler i got from Brian i noticed this scrapping mark .Posted on the forum a few weeks back about a noise i could here at times. This maybe the problem, i have not  had the clutch plates off as yet, but that large cog behind the clutch plates wobbles by hand. These scrapes on the basket and that knic on the nut have me worried. Clutch cover has no scrape marks on the inside of it.  There has been a slight vibration at times and though it might have been old sprockets / chains that i use for beach rides. Vibration never got worse with revs ( i did check all engine mounts which were tight) thought id post this wile i have a break from the bike. Will prob get anxious soon and take the clutch plates off to see if that big nut behind them is tight. 35,000 km on the bike.  Oil filter and gauze are clean.  Any ideas in the meantime.  Thanks.

Went another step and this nut also has a knic out of it. Its abit hard to tell if the clutch plate holder has small scrapes or just a factory finish.  i have to wait and get a big socket to check that large nut.

Hi Mark

The "scrapes" are absolutely normal and I have them on all of my spare clutch baskets. There was a series of photos showing this on one of my threads but I can't immediately find it. Rest assured it is OK wink

The outer basket runs on a large plain brass bush and there will always be a bit of play in it so, again, don't worry.  You can see from the photo below that it is a deep bush and I have never heard of anyone having to replace the part because of excessive wear.

If you aren't getting any swarf in the filters then I would relax, put it all back together again and go riding biggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrin

Thanks Brian. Was just right now reading that thread and seen the other clutch baskets with scrape marks. I should have searched clutch issues earlier before panic set in. I looked at the wrecked engine i have as spare and its basket is clean with no markings at all so i went into panic then. Thanks again. 5pm here so will put oil cooler on in the morning and test run it .

that bush only works when the motor is in gear with the clutch disangauged.... 'lever pulled in"
while riding the clutch basket is spining with and at the same speed as the shaft...
