Tyre wear
Permalink

Hi, I am usually pretty good at working out how long road tyres will last on bikes but I am still pretty new to this off road stuff.  I have an Ac10 on the back of my TTR and it has about 10mm left on the centre blocks (it seems strange calling it tread).  if I sort out some other issues with the bike I intend riding down from Derbyshire to the Brecon Beacons to do the Taffy Dakar at the weekend.  It is about 200 miles each way on the road plus whatever I do when I am there.  Do you reckon the tyre will last or should I change it before I go.  I have a CO2 in the garage but changing tyres is not my favourite pastime so I would rather not change it if I don't need to.

cheers Jak

with 10mm and a 400+ mile trip a AC10 will be toast by the time you get back if not before...

Even Michelin state in there descipton of the AC10... "not designed for prolonged road use"
for short seal trips from dirt to dirt...

Change before you go, as Pete said it will be toast and you will need some good tread for the Welsh lanes. Sarn Helen is one of the nearest lanes to ancient Britton and believe me you will need some there!

You know what I would do

Just wear out the one you have and get a new tyre and tube fitted at your destination

Makes sense to me to kill a nearly dead tyre anyway
