ITs dark out , so havent looked hard , but starter is cranking , battery has good charge , but wont fire. Is there a common fault electrically that would be causing the problem?

checked spark.. nothing.
Changed coil , retested.. nothing
Changed regulator , retested, nothing
Changed black box thing under the seat , retested , nothing
checked all those parts against working items and all multimeter readings were the same. My money now is on the stator not giving the trigger signal, even though it tested as closed circuit. I'll pull the covers off both bikes tomorrow and test them against each other , maybe swap them and retry starting it.

Yes , not badly , but it smelt. Plug has zero spark , tested with screwdriver near block and another known working plug.

Mine wouldn't start the other day no   first time since I have owned it for 3 years

anyway I pulled of the spark plug cap, left the plug in, stuck a bit of wire into the cap and cranked it

sure enough plenty of spark, so pulled the plug after cleaning around it, put a teaspoon of petrol down the plug hole

and instant start, woohoo, to easy biggrin

My brother's stator has just died so will be going through the same replacement process!

There are firms that rewind stators else a used one is available here.

Apparently Im slightly wrong , its not the stator , its the inductive pickup thats died , the 2 wires that are in the same sheath as the 3 white charge wires... Called a guy and he as one for me for $50!

New stator/ pickup fitted and bike is running sweet! Lowered the rear spring on both bikes to accommodate my short female riding friends.

If anyone needs a spare pickup see here

Ignition pickup.jpg

This is a once off as it is very rare that a failed stator can't be rewound as happened in this instance.
