Hi I'm new here but done plenty of on and off road touring by motorbike in the past and am considering getting myself a ttr250 for some green laning and some long distance off-road tours.

so is seems your the guys to ask about these bikes.

what would you guys class as high milage for these motors (With appropriate maintenance)  ?

what sort of miles do common problems generally occur ?

what sort of milage do people generally start thinking of doing engine rebuilds ?

i know it's hard to answer with great accuracy but these bikes have been around for a long time now so the must be some common themes .

thanks

Heard of TTR's with 100,000+ miles on them.

Some have got their bikes to 25,000 miles without having to redo the valve clearances.

Only common theme with the TTR is a worn sprag clutch after time, but their is warning of this in the clunk of engine shut down, and its a relatively easy fix.

Only do engine parts if it starts smoking or rattling etc etc.

Mine has 35,000KMS.  No repairs done as yet, and goes as strong as when i bought it with 9,000kms . They are all road KMs but i do give it heaps through the gears often. Prob look at valve clearance soon.

Hi David and welcome.

Lot's of guys and girls use these bikes for epic journeys, they seem to go on foreversmile

As Pete said the sprag is a bit of a weak point, but if you listen for a loud clunk, the bike will let you know when it needs a new one.

The best thing is this here forum, there are many knowledgeable people willing to help with advicesmile

Brian and Trish have done a great job of totallyttrs.com
