thats ok the brown wire is fed from the igniton switch so there shpould be power there it then goes via the other wire to the flasher switch (center of the switch) its then swithed left of right

so the flow is batt, ign sw, flsher unit, flasher switch then left or right lights through to the earth

hope this helps

Wire it up as above flow, the flasher unit wont flash umtill the load of the flasher bulbs are added, thats why you are currently getting constant power on both wires on the unit

Hi, Thanks for that it makes a bit more sense now. I'll get back out in the garage in the morning and have another go. A further complication is that I am fitting LED indicators and the original flasher unit has three wires going to it whilst the new one for the LEDs has only two. I am guessing that the third wire has something to do with the hazard warning switch and I only need to connect two wires up?

I havent looked at mine for years but the third wire is for the indicator on the dash

if its black its an earth. its too hot out in the shed to have a look at the moment biggrin

To fit up the two wire one just use the brown and the other one that feeds the switch

im pretty sure brian has a unit that suits, he wont be far away.

Hi guys - brain already gone to sleep so might not answer the question but, for what it's worth, the OE flasher unit has three wires which, as ttboof has alluded to, consist of black (earth), brown (live) and brown/white which, if I recollect correctly, goes to the switch.

Thanks brian forgot your on the wrong side of the world at the moment

as the third wire the black isnt needed on the two pin unit just leave it alone and go with the other two

Hi, Thanks both of you for the info. I now have working indicators, although I think there are still some issues with the wiring that I may need to look at another time. I didn't get it finished in time to go and play in the snow, but it will be ready for work tomorrow if the weathers bad. I quite like the idea of having a shed that is too hot to work in, that would make a change.

3 years later and, my question 'what are the brown & brown/white wires & connector?' is solved. I didn't even realise that I had the relay sitting there all the time.
