Front Fork Differences

Hey guys,

When I bought my Raid, I also got given a set of what I believe are the open endure front forks. They have the little air nipple at the top.

My question is, are their any differences between the two apart from this air nipple and which set are better? Is it worth me swapping over the OE ones?

The air valves are there so you can adjust the spring rate. It depends what you want from your suspension setup really.

My recollection is that there are some internal and external differences but the action of the forks is pretty much the same. Essentially TTRs are the same bike from 1993 to 2011 with cosmetic differences in the main.

In terms of fitting in the forks and fitting the caliper and wheel the fork legs are interchangeable across models and years.

The problem occurs when using forks from a digital speedo model on a later model where the speedo drive is off the front wheel. I recollect that the lug to hold the drive gear is missing from the RH fork leg as is the pimple lug that holds the speedo cable clamp. Not much of a problem really.

Bit of an update. I am trying to sort out my used parts ahead of the handover to Steve and Lisa at the beginning of June and came across a carrier bag of fork parts.

Fork leg parts Raid 4GY3 4GY5 4WA1.jpg

A bit of research show them to be from a Raid model 4GY3/4GY5/4WA1. They are quite a lot different to all the other forks that I have rebuilt. The most noticeable difference is the lack of rod.

This is the fiche pic I found.

The stanchion and a washer (#13.31) are missing but otherwise it all seems to be there as shown in my first photo. The standard TTR oil and dust seals plus bushings are the same thank goodness!

This is just a heads up that the the instructions here will not work exactly.

All a bit obscure but I am the sort of anorak that enjoys this stuff wink
