Newbie to my TTR, bogging down under load
Permalink

Evening all,

Just taken my '94 TTR for a quick test run and its bogging under load, revs clean at standstill, good spark etc. The plug was black and the air filter clean. Not had chance to take the carb off as yet, but it was supplied with a competition exhaust that was taken off recently as its loud and a standard exhaust fitted.

I have fitted a new plug that instantly made a improvement, but its sooty again, so bogs. Not tried with airbox lid off as yet....

I drained the carb and tank, refilled with fresh fuel

My thoughts are if its been jetted to run an open pipe and now fitted with a standard restrictive exhaust, could the sooty plug/bogging be a symptom?

I am planning to fit the open pipe at the weekend so this will answer my question but I would appreciate thoughts in advance!

Cheers

Yeah running too rich will cause the bog bogs, try adjusting needle clip setting first, or just use the open pipe

Thanks Pete, I think fitting the pipe will be the quickest check to make as the panels are off already in the workshop.

As the open pipe was also supplied with a unrestricted header pipe, its possible that the header fitted to the bike is also restricted. Hopefully a straight forward fix.

Need to sort a few more jobs to get it MOT ready, indicator relay, brake light switch, and a damn good clean as its running Aprillia 17" wheels and is destined for road use only!

Cheers

Tonight I managed to fit the open pipe, jeez its loud, but its a modified motorcross pipe, rather than a Enduro pipe so on the lookout for something under 100db!
The good news is that it has resolved the flatspot, not all bad!

Quick update,
I rebuilt the carb, found a broken post on the float, fixed with chemical metal. Now fitted with a WR450F enduro pipe and drilled airbox, running very sweet, a little to rich but better than lean!

Taken it out for a couple of shakedown rides and really surprised, lots of punch (17" wheels help) and a lot of fun, especially with sticky sports tyres fitted!

MOT is next Monday so just some final tweaks and its good to go, awesome. Pics to follow....
