I usually keep my road bikes for several years (4-5ish) and get several touring trips out of them before I dosh them in for something new, my mates quite often change theirs after 2 years, but I like to get the most out of bikes. As for the TTR I might keep it indefinately..

The longest I held onto a bike was a race tuned CBR600 which was fantastic fun. Had that one for 5 years and only sold it as I needed some extra cash to buy a house. Sold it to a guy I worked with who 2 months later killed himself on it. Didn't have a bike for a while after that :( When I did I opted for a more sedated 1250 Bandit.

There is never a time limit on how long I have a bike for, it just depends on how the mood takes me, but I can see the TTR hanging around for some time as it really does everything, cheaply and well.

I've still got my first two bikes, so that's 43 & 42 years respectivelydisbelief

Generally I'd say around 5 years though just recently it seems to be about a year, I think I'm trying as many as I can while there's still time!smile

I bought my 1955 T100 on the 25-Aug-1966 and still have it and run it.

This is how it looks nowadays

I bought my TTR in August 2010 and still enjoy the trails - but not as many recently no more's the pity.

Liking that Trumpit lot's Martyn wish I still had my 76 T140v had a mate that worked in the chromers at the time and he had free run of the place to do parts on the side. needles to say I took full use of the fact. I had her for 15 years only sold her when work was short an money was tight at one time.

 Hardly, Pete.

Over the years things have dropped off, worn off and things have exploded.

It's had two repaints, at least 3 engine rebuilds, 1 gearbox rebuild and  1 major clutch rebuild.

Bearings, chains, exhausts, tyres and things regularly wear out but I've replaced many other bits as and when needed over time.

This photo is a few weeks after I bought it in '66 for £17 10/-

Another bike I have was first registered in 1926

Compared to these my TTR is quite young. biggrinbiggrin
