The wales long weekender starts tomorrow.

Hopefully if everything goes to plan there will be some photeys/words of the Dolgellau/Machynlleth/Barmouth area posted here soon.

Oil is changed, rimlocks tightened, spokes tweeked, psi's upped, goop installed, chain lubed, etc.

Welsh cakes and tea await in the cottage we are staying in apparently. smile

I'm still here! These sheep are lovely! Report coming soon when I am back and can do a half decent one via the p.c. These lanes are technical up here as I'm sure you know! Hit all the usuals south of Dolgellau today. Tired me out for sure, but beers are a plenty

So I'm back and here is what we encountered..

Nant Braich.

Bit of air after worrying about sharp rocks, he only had 11psi in there too! noconfuse

Happy Valley.

Bastard Lane.

WP_20150711_029.jpg

Sunday

Barmouth mountain.

WP_20150712_008.jpg

IMG-20150712-WA0003.jpg

When down off the mountain we grabbed some lunch from the shop and we had several sets of bikers come up and chat to us! Some trail riders and also some road riders, we had two sets there at once at one stage and it was a massive chat free for all! Barmouth is obviously a popular stop off point for bikers for food/drink/rest/chat!.. smile

Barmouth Byway.

WP_20150712_020.jpg

At the end of the day I noticed my rear brake disc guard was bent inward and had a little dent in the underneath of it, so obviously it was well worth the tenner I gave Brian for it and a bloody good idea, I knew it would do it's job. I have bent it back out again now. My reg plate also got bent outwards a bit and had to hit my handguards back in place on a couple of occasions also!

WP_20150712_021.jpg

Plenty of grub and beers/ciders were consumed! Got to be done aint it!

WP_20150710_012.jpg

WP_20150710_013.jpg

All in all a bloody good trip, I recommend doing it, and I'm sure a few on here already have, but I warn you now, some of those lanes up there are pretty technical with steep ascents/descents, piles of boulders/rubble and

harsh drop offs etc.

I had two low speed offs because of all the mental terrain. smile

We did around 60+ miles on green lanes over the 2 days, the trails are pretty long.

Luckily there were no breakdowns or punctures which was really great and the weather stayed on our side both days. smile

There are some videos to come. smile

Great pics Pete, the lanes look good. Me and my mate were up Wales 2 weeks ago but we never had time to do the lanes you've pictured. A plan for next yr :)

Excellent report and pics Pete - Wales is certainly "Big Country" eh?

A man after my own heart - gotta recognise the importance of the food and bevvies on a trip like that biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

I would be interested to hear more about Bastard Lane - is it really as tough as people say?

Good to hear the disc guard fulfilled its duties wink  (Still got more in stock than I should have so still at the special price of £10!)

It sometimes surprises me to see the hits my sump guard takes that would otherwise have resulted in flattened frame rails.....

Brian

My bash plate took a absolutesmile hammering, all I heard was bang bang.

Bastard lane is on a par with Barmouth mountain I'd say, pretty technical stuff, the infamous waterfall, big ruts, deep puddles, and two muddy tree root styley ascents also, how the hell 4x4's get up it is surprising. Its lucky they don't close it being how mental it is.

The bevvies flowed nicely, and I urge anyone to try the cross foxes restaurant near dolgellau if they go, what a fantastic 16oz gammon steak!

Wonderful, even persistent rain doesn't spoil the grandeur of it all.

Spiffingly glorious, that's what trailing's all about.

Thanks for showing us.

We had a really great time yes, our first time riding in very rocky terrain, there were some quite tricky bits at times but it was all good.

I really enjoyed razzing up the bouldery steep tricky ascents, makes you feel great when you make it to the top without stopping!

I really recommend people go and check it out, the TTR handled it all with ease although did get slightly hot at times.

Its pretty cool up there at that point. 'The ancient stone bridge and standing stones at Pont Scethin has an amazing timeless feel about it, sitting in a quiet undisturbed landscape of mountains and hills, totally unspoilt by signs of modern life.'
