Hi Everyone, I'm Dion from Australia and have just joined.  I have been following the group for a few years now and decided to join up.  I have a 2000 TTR - please see attached pics.  I have enjoyed reading the posts from various people and have utilised some of the ideas and mods on my bike which I've owned for about 8 or so years now.

Welcome Dion! Tidy TTR there - you have looked after it well.

What's the riding like in Tas?

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome.

The off-road riding here is quite good with areas right across the state providing mainly wooded areas at sea level to medium elevation plus highland areas with some snowfall. Good single track and forestry roads and tracks.

A little info on my TTR:

Forks have uprated springs to reduce the front end dive - wrks well with 7.5 wt oil;

Australian made Staintune  exhaust - a little loud for my liking but really frees it up right through the rev range with more torque and engine runs cooler too;

Air box opened up on top panel - standard jetting and settings and runs nicely;

Michelin AC10's - have tried a few different tyres and found these to give a good mix of ability;

Rebuilt rear end with ProX linkage bearing kit (same as All Balls) and one of the top shock bearing kits with the urethane bushes (works well);

The gearing is 14:48 - have found this a good all purpose combination and have used 13:48 with good results for off-road only;

I service it every 500 - 700km's - oil and filter and what ever needs doing, I swap out to a clean air filter regularly and after every bush ride.

Anyway don't want to bore everyone to tears on my first day but thanks for the welcome and look forward to continued great reading, particularly Brian's refurbishments - love the pics and commentary, keep them coming.  I'm on the lookout for another TTR for a project myself!

Regards to all,

Dion

Hello Dion.  I guess you can say you have the closest TTR to the south pole. Unless there are New Zealand members further south. With the air box mod and the tailpipe you dont find it runs lean. I have read that the Auzzy models run abit rich from the factory and you may get away with no rejetting after uncorking the machine. Is that so with yours ?  Im at Tweed heads Australia and you can say all my riding is done at 1meter above sea level.

Good morning all,

Mark,
Regarding running rich, yes mine was running rich with stock pipe even with the airbox opened up. Its about right now with the Staintune pipe and standard jetting (152.5 pilot, 147 main and needle clip in the middle slot.) I bought the pipe used from a wrecked ttr ($150!) thinking it would only really be good for the 2kg weight saving and appearance but was pleasantly surprised at the performance gain.

Dion.
