hi,i  bought an open enduro  a week ago and it has lived in my van until yesterday when my insurace started, ,it started first press of the starter and i rode for about 7kms[lights on],after returning to the bike after an hour the battery was as dead as a dodo,i charged it up last night with a smart charger which i know to be good, the multi meter is reading battery voltage 12.6v,when the engine is running there is no increase in voltage,i am about to go through the wiring with contact cleaner etc,my question is this,is there any part of the charging system that has a 'bad' reputation and may require extra attention?,anyway thats the bad bit out  of the way,i disconnected the front light and went for a ride for a few kms and absolutely love it,thanks in advance, martin

Does it increase in voltage when you apply some revs? 12.6 is fairly low.

hi pete,it drops down to about 12.2,as low as 11 .8 when being revved to about 3000-5000 rpm, after my post i've removed the tank and seat,1 by 1 opened and cleaned all blocks and bullet connectors, taken off earths and cleaned to bright metal and replaced, the plus is i now have rear indicators and a working neutral light but still no volts, the upside is  that it's all original wiring with no bodges, the headlight area is a different story,i've not touched any thing at the front but i can see taped over loose wires,is there any charging wiring in that area?.i am tempted to buy a rectifier  from ebay as if thats not the culprit i'll have a spare, all the best, martin

Reg/rec is normally the first thing to change unless you can test it, it's normally cheapest item in the system and most common to pack up. always look at genuine over pattern, as you normally has to buy twice with the cheap ones.

I've worked in bike shops for the last 10 years and this has been my experience
