Vibrations

Hi all - another question from me regarding my recently purchased TTR. There's more vibrations than I expected at higher revs. I've done basic checks for loose bolts/nuts etc. Is there anything else I should check ? What's the 'standard' for the bike in terms of smoothness across the revs ?

It's felt through the bars mostly.

thanks

This keeps cropping up for some reason, along with peoples TTR's not tracking straight... I should check everything you can at the front of the bike if it is felt through the bars.

Is the wheel not true(buckled) or binding in any way?
Are the forks/bars torqued up correctly?
Are the engine mounting bolts also tight/torqued?
Is the engine serviceable with good compression and sounds healthy with no rattles?

Good luck with it smile

 Sounds normal to me...

250 single is quite buzzy at higher revs

at 100kmph these little motors are spinning

at around 6000rpm..

All the 250 single I have owned TTR250 / XR250 / DRZ250

all have been like this.... nature of the beast..

The term normaly used is "Buzzy" motor..

If yer want vibration try a XT660R at 4000 rpm... hands go numb after 30 mins...

At 65mph my TTR doesn't vibrate the bars. Obviously it ain't as smooth as my big four cylinder bike, but not much is. Anyone else find theirs a bit vibratey?..

Sounds normal to me as well, rode mine for 22 miles yesterday on the road and
they get buzzy enough at 100kph, every part of you would be vibrating when you get
off it.

Thanks for all your responses. I'll go over all the engine mounting bolts/torque again. Is there anything which mounts the top of the engine to the frame ? I've not had the tank off yet. It's not bad btw, was really just asking for views. It has Renthal bars.

I've owned a DRZ400 in the past and don't recall it being as buzzy as the TTR at higher revs. BTW I can also feel the vibes through the seat.

Went for a long ride yesterday - the bike performed well both on and off road.

Good points : Suspension works suprisingly well, gearbox is sweet (with fresh oil), engine performed well both in the slow tight stuff and flying along the road (vibes aside), seat is comfortable.

Not so good points : Vibes, throttle travel is big (really need to twist it to fully open), front brake a bit spongy (will bleed)

Top engine mount:

Engine mount - top rear.jpg

The TTR engine is blessed with a decent balancer so isn't normally vibey.

If all the mounts check out then have a look at the chain and make sure the wheel is in alignment and the chain properly tensioned. It is surprising how many noise and vibration issues can be caused by the chain.

Ref the throttle, check the cables aren't loose.

It sounds like your "not so good points" should be readily solved wink

Nice to get a review from a new owner. Us old hands tend to take the TTR's good points for granted at times.

That was going to be my next suggestion. Most of the time if vibes are felt through the front of the bike it is probably an engine mounts issue, but if the vibes are felt further back the most common cause is the chain having a tight spot
