Spare set of wheels - different gearing
Permalink

Hey everyone,

I've got 13/48 gearing on my bike.

I've just bought a second set of rims to run my 50/50 tyres on and thought I might go a 46 rear sprocket.

Anyone know if the chain set for 13/48 will still fit with a rear 46. Chain adjusters are on 8.2 currently. Can't remember how many links.

I'm pretty certain the standard 44 tooth sprocket will be too small to allow correct adjustment of the chain.

Cheers Leigh.

If you drop a total of 2 teeth on the rear, you can approximate the increase in wheelbase to be 1 tooth/link as the 2 teeth you lose on the sprocket end up on the straight runs rather than wrapped around the sprocket. It's an approximation, but it gives an idea.

So if you've got about a links worth of movement on the cams you should be OK.
