Just about there now, will need to wait for the bleed kit from eBay. However only have new fuel to add and fill it with oil and fit the new filter. The manual says to put 1.1 ltr into the engine but I read somewhere that after a strip down it takes 1.4 ? Is it worth cranking the engine over a few times before trying to get the engine to fire to lube the top end. Hope this isn't an amateurs question 😁

Yes turn it over with the kick start or wheel a few times, I quite often do that with bikes after storage etc

well one step forward and one back. Bike all back together new oil and fresh fuel added today, cranked it over a couple of times them turned on the fuel tap and it fired first press. A bit of fiddling with the tick over and it was running the best it ever has. then i noticed petrol coming out the bottom of the carb. Stripped it down again and it looks like the o rings are the culprit. It wasn't leaking before the strip down but they do look a bit brittle. Just waiting for a caliper from Brian and now a couple of o rings and it should be running again. I take it this is a common issue.

Before putting the diaphragm cap back on make sure it is flat and clean by giving it a rub on some wet & dry on a flat surface.

The little O rings do seem to be a weak point.

The other thing to check is the diaphragm. There is a raised edge around the outside of the rubber diaphragm and if there are any nicks or tears in it then that will also cause a leak.

Put the carb back on to the bike and it spewed fuel out again. Took the bowl off and everything seems OK, hoping it was just the float sticking and over flowing. Will try again tomorrow. New caliper rebuilt with new seals and all copper slipped up. Will try and get this done also, thanks Brian for the great service

Well got the front brake working, had to use the bleed nipple from my old caliper, had to clean it out as it was bunged up. Tried bleeding for ages before that. School boy error lol. Still leaking fuel so a mate who is a mechanic will have a look on Friday. Pictures once it's all together

I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who gave advice during the build. I would have struggled without all the help especially Brian and Trish for supplying the parts needed. While the bike isn't up to the high standards of some I've seen on the forum (Brian) it is in a far better shape than when I got it. 😁

Took the bike for its MOT today, it passed with flying colours. The mechanic was actually impressed with the way the bike is looking, he has done the mot's since I got the TTR. It is running like a dream, the new in take boot has really helped.

Is this the picture of a smart TTR that has now got a MoT ticket?

If that is the one then you've done well and congratulations.

In my opinion, black is THE colour of a motorbike frame. My English bikes have black frames and only my TTR is different. smile

Black is definitely easier to touch up scratches on etc. My Tuono has a bronze coloured frame which has taken me 5 years to get used to. I would like to say again, thank for all the help and encouragement that everyone given over this rebuild.

Took the Yamaha out to a bike meet last night, did about 65 miles all in and it never missed a beat. Only issue I've had is a back spasm which I haven't had since I last rode the ttr. Hoping the two are unconnected.

Bike looks great. Well done!
I've had the occasional back problem after riding long periods on motorways - I think it's something to do with clinging on for grim death at 70mph with no wind protection! At slower speeds I've spent 12 hours in the saddle with no problems, but that includes off road work which enables you to move around a bit. (The ttr seat is more comfortable under my boney butt than my old 660 Tenere!)
Ride safe,
Simon.

I can do 350 miles on a run on my Tuono at what can be described as spirited riding on a run and have little issues. Not sure if it's the very upright sitting position. Will preserve for now as I want to get the benefits of rebuilding it.

So I've been out again and my back is killing me. So with a heavy heart it looks like the wee yamaha will be up for sale. Any thoughts on what it's worth. It is by no means perfect but has had a fair bit done to it. A pair of mitas tyres and a stand will go with it,as will original headlight and exhaust (which is rusty). Under 10k kms on the clock,I have a few old mot's which seem to back this up.

That's sad to hearcry

Think what you have asked for in your other post is a very fair price and I can't see it hanging around for very long.

Good luck with the sale and I hope your back gets better soon.

Steve
