TTR 250 1993 Tyres?

Having just bought a white 1993 TTR 250 for a short commute to work  (9miles each way) can someone please advise on the road tyres that I will require. The bike will not be used off road at all, criminal I know but it was a bargain and ideal for my daily short trip. Also any idea of its value? 1993 model, white, 20000 miles, ok condition.

Thahs in advance for any replies, joined forum today  - 16/4/15 - great site.

Hi Boyce and welcome to the forum!

I use Avon Distanzas on my shopping TTR and they show no signs of wear after nearly 2 years!

Thanks for swift reply. Can you advise me on the size only I think you have to be careful with the width on the rear?

4.60 -18 & 3.00 -21. OR 120/90-18 & 90/90-21. Yes the rear tyre will depend a little bit on what chain and sprockets are on there, if they're standard then it should be ok. White ttr's tend to go for anywhere around £800-£1400 depending on mileage and tidyness.smile

Thanks peteBluettr
Do you know what the standard sprockets and chain should be? And why will that make a difference to tyre size?

Standard sprockets are 14/44, round about 110 links on the chain. Chain and sprockets make a difference to the possible tyre size because a shorter chain or bigger rear sprocket may pull the wheel in further to swingarm and reduce clearance.

Ok, I understand now, thank you. Just had quick look and it's 48 on the rear, RK520 chain but will need to remove cover to check the front.
Didn't realise replacing tyres was going to be so much hassle!!

If you want it exclusively as a road bike and are going back down to a 44 rear sprocket, which I suppose you are going to do, and which I would do as a 48 sprocket wont give you over 75mph maximum, then you will be given the room to get whatever tyre size in you like pretty much because the smaller rear sprock will inherently allow the wheel to move back a bit in the swingarm.

And what size front sprocket you recommend to go with the 44 rear?

13 will give you slightly quicker acceleration. 14 is standard.
