TTR 250 rebound/dampening adjuster on bottom of shock? And more..

Newbie to the forum so thanks in advance. Grabbed a local 250 that was lightly used and a garage queen. Ran like crap though as the pilot jet was clogged. Anyway 2 questions:

1) bottom rebound of rear shock has no set consistent "clicks" just spins and occasionally there's a click! Do the clicks correspond to one revolution of the adjustment nut? cant seem to find a stopping point high or low? Trying to set 1/2 way as a starting point after I set sag.

2) I got a wee bit of backfire when I chop the throttle. Not all the time.  No backfire I sunburned fuel correct? valves were adjusted, I've done the carb clean, backed the gas/air screw 2.5+. My suspicions are: small leak at the new FMF exhaust/header pipe. Maybe some liquid gasket here? Or a small leak in the rubber intake manifold? I heard a bit of WD40 when idling will confirm by revving higher?

BTW these are really cool bike for local trails. I prefer it to my XR 250. Taller and has a smother powerband

Any other thoughts?

Hi there and welcome to the forum!

1. Regarding your shock, it sounds as if the rod going up into the seal head is stuck. It should be sprung against the adjuster so that the clicker works. Does adjusting the clicker actually change anything? It should be possible to adjust it so that the shock goes solid. Loads of info here.

2. A small leak in the exhaust somewhere can cause a bit of popping on the over run so worth checking. A leak on the inlet side would cause more significant running problems. See the last couple of posts here.

Welcome to the TTR forum, Jim.

I agree with you about the TTR's ability to grunt.

Alright now: some exhaust leak sealant at the joint where the header meets the exhaust ( recommended by FMF) and we are running smooooooooof! And the rebound adjuster was spun all the way down? I turned it back to the top and the clicks came back! Went down 13 to start. Btw I have the stock pipe I'll sell if you know anyone who needs one? Cheers.

Welcome Jim. I also had to turn my adjuster back up to get the clicks back when I first got my ttr. Previous owner must of liked it being bouncy...

Think I'm going to rejet it too. Like the easy to follow uncork instructions this bike is a blast!

Cool bikes eh. Yeah get that silly restrictor out the back of the header! Only open up your air box if you aren't going to be going through deep puddles.

I had a similar problem and got some advice here to disassemble and clean the adjuster as they can get pretty grungy. Upon disassembly I found there was a part missing - the clicker bit!
